About Groupcall

When it took a London primary school three days to contact all parents to advise them that the start of term would be delayed due to flooding, Joanne and Lawrence Royston, whose children attended the school at the time, knew that there had to be a better solution.

And so Groupcall was conceived, initially, as a service to improve the level of general and emergency communication between a school and its parents. However, discussions with schools soon revealed that many were also struggling to contact parents of pupils absent without authorisation on the first day of absence. Those schools that did have sufficient resource found their administration staff were spending more than two hours a day making and fielding calls to parents whilst tracking parents down with calls made to mobile phones was proving costly as well as time consuming.

Schools and authorities were consulted closely on the features required from a communication product and continue to be consulted on where functionality of the product can be extended. A number of schools participate on Groupcall's Beta test panel so that upgrades can be fully tested in the field before being released to all schools.

Since then, the company's two flagship products - Messenger and Xporter - have been proven to reduce truancy rates and are now being piloted in other sectors, where databases can be message-enabled and used to contact groups of individuals.

Others have also recognised the value of the Groupcall service. In 2006 the company was named as the overall winner of the Daily Telegraph's inaugural Trailblazers Award Scheme to find the leading company in the UK's 'life assistance' sector.
